Bridgeport, Connecticut (CNN) — The University of Bridgeports is hosting a celebration of its 100th anniversary, including a game against Yale on Saturday.
The win is the first by the school since 1929 and marks the school’s first appearance in a BCS bowl game.
A win by the University of Connecticut over Yale on Dec. 3, 1931, was the first BCS game played in Bridgeport.
The university has played four BCS games in the past year, winning three times and losing the other.
It will play the second-ranked Bulldogs, the No. 13 team in the nation.
A lot has changed in a short time.
The school was founded in 1921 and has a reputation for being one of the best in the Northeast.
The University of Massachusetts was founded by William O. F. Buckley, who died in 1969.
The Boston Bruins, a baseball team that started in 1962, moved to Providence in 1980 and the Boston Red Sox joined the league in 1983.
The Connecticut school has been a leader in sports since the 1950s.
The school won two state championships in the mid-1930s, and won four state titles in the 1960s.
